Prediction No.2:

We'll see the rise of Intelligent Edge Computing

With the emergence of autonomous vehicles, drones and data-intensive industrial automation systems including, the prevailing centralized cloud-mobile computing model will not be able to accommodate the low latency demands of real-time analytics. The emergence of intelligent edge devices – gateways and devices incorporating real-time data processing, advanced analytics, and business logic – will continue to gain ground. While we won’t see an end to cloud computing, edge computing will gain ground in IIoT use cases, particularly where data needs to be processed locally in real-time.

We can expect to see more and more enterprises pushing processing and analysis of data to the edge of the network with the aim to reduce data ingestion costs and network latency. Intelligent edge devices provide real-time decisioning, while historical analytics will take place in the cloud for in-depth analytical insights.
